Engagement Season & Oval Diamond Rings

May 4, 2021

Engagement Season

An engagement ring is a symbol of forever, of finding love and your happily ever after. While engagements happen year-round, we’ve found that May tends to be a popular month for our customers. And though ring shopping can be overwhelming, Samuelson’s is here to help you learn about choices that work for your budget and your beloved’s style to find the perfect ring for you.

The most popular stone for an engagement ring is the diamond, due to its hardiness, its longevity, and its sparkle. Diamonds are graded based on their cut, clarity, carat, and color, which helps jewelers evaluate its fair market value. The cut is often the most important detail, because depending on how a ring is cut will determine the other three qualities. Sometimes you can get more clarity with a smaller carat size due to the way a diamond has been cut, versus a larger carat size that might have more color and less clarity.

Right now, the hot diamond shape is the oval – and there’s a reason for that! Ovals are part of the brilliant cut family, meaning they are super sparkly. They’ll certainly catch your eye, that’s for sure!

The elongated shape of an oval diamond maximizes its surface area, making them appear larger than a comparable diamond cut in a round shape. With oval diamonds, it’s all about proportion, and these stones can appear more rounded or more square depending on the length-to-width ratio. Another added bonus to an oval diamond is that their rounded shape makes them less prone to chipping.

We think part of the reason we’re seeing such a spike in oval rings right now is because there’s a simplicity to this classic shape. It can shine on its own or with other stones, and is always in fashion. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s currently the shape du jour when it comes to celebrity engagement rings!

Selecting a stone is an important part of the process when it comes to buying a diamond engagement ring. And at Samuelson’s, we want you to have the time and the space you need to make the decision that feels right to you. From choosing from our selection of engagement rings or designing a custom ring with an oval diamond stone, we can help. Along the way, we can review the perfect metal and setting – whether it be bezel, pronged, or pave.

We can even help you brainstorm ideas on where to propose based on our favorite places in Maryland for proposals and how to make it uniquely you. Ultimately, we want you to have a wonderful, one-of-a-kind experience as you enter this next stage of your happily ever after.

Diamonds will forever be in style, no matter what shape you decide to buy. If you’re ready to start the next chapter of your love story by putting a ring on it, let Samuelson’s Diamonds help!
