Engagement Ring Trends 2026

Engagement Ring Trends Shaping 2026

Engagement rings will always have a central role in jewelry. They’re more than fashion. They’re more than investments. They represent love and commitment, and that makes the choice of engagement rings incredibly important.

Some engagement ring choices will always be in style. But in 2026, couples are moving past cookie-cutter designs and choosing rings that reflect how they live and love. We’re seeing trends emerging from bold gemstone centers to vintage settings with decades of character.

At Samuelson’s Diamonds, we’ve been helping couples find meaningful engagement rings for over 100 years. So we’ve seen all kinds of love over the years!

Here’s what we’re seeing right now – and what to consider if you’re shopping for one of the most important pieces of jewelry you’ll ever own.

Trending Diamond Shapes for Engagement Rings in 2026

When it comes to engagement rings, it’s diamonds, diamonds, diamonds. Here’s what we’re seeing in 2026 when it comes to diamond shape:

Oval Engagement Rings

The elongated silhouette is consistently popular, as it flatters nearly every hand. Plus, ovals face up larger than rounds of the same carat weight.

Is a 3-carat oval engagement ring too big? Not necessarily! Any carat size depends on finger size and setting style, and ovals carry their weight gracefully.

Emerald Cut Engagement Rings

Emerald cut rings are surging among buyers who want something a bit more sleek and architectural.

The step-cut faceting creates a hall-of-mirrors effect that feels sophisticated rather than flashy. And because emerald cuts show clarity more openly, it’s important to work with an expert who can walk you through grades in person, which makes a real difference.

Pear-Shaped Engagement Rings and Marquise Engagement Rings

These types are having a strong moment in 2026 as well.

Both of these shapes have a way of elongating the finger and creating a dramatic look. We’re seeing more pear and marquise requests than at any point in recent memory.

Princess-Cut Engagement Ring and Classic Solitaire Engagement Ring

Naturally, princess cut and solitaire remain foundational choices. These aren’t going anywhere. But we are noticing that they’re being styled in new ways, from east-west settings to mixed-metal bands.

If you’re weighing a solitaire against a halo, our solitaire vs. halo guide breaks down cost and resale value side by side.

Color, Metal, and Gemstone Trends in 2026

Can engagement rings be colored? Absolutely – and in 2026, more couples are saying yes to non-diamond center stones.

Sapphire engagement rings are leading the colored gemstone trend. These rings feature rich blues (and increasingly, teal and peach tones) that pair beautifully with both yellow and white gold.

And speaking of metal: gold engagement rings are back in a big way.

This style comes and goes, and right now it’s back. Why? The yellow gold feels warm and vintage-inspired. Rose gold adds a romantic blush, and white gold keeps things modern.

What karat gold works best? Most jewelers recommend 14k or 18k.

14k is more durable for daily wear, while 18k has a richer color.

A Big Trend? Vintage, Antique, and Unique Settings

Vintage engagement rings and antique jewelry engagement rings are among the strongest trends we’re seeing.

Couples love the romance of a ring with history. This means rings that have intricate milgrain edges, hand-engraved details, and old European or mine-cut diamonds. They sparkle differently from modern stones. If you’re drawn to rings with a story, estate and antique pieces are where you’ll find them.

The broader unique engagement rings movement includes mixed metals, asymmetric designs, bezel settings, and heirloom stones reset into modern engagement ring designs.

The common thread? Personalization. Couples want something that doesn’t look like everyone else’s, and the range of settings available today – solitaire, halo, three-stone, cluster, bezel, and more – makes that easier than ever.

Your Engagement Ring Questions, Answered

Shopping for an engagement ring is a big choice. For some, it may be the first big investment they make. Others are looking to make the right pick that will last.

Here are some of the most common questions we receive when it comes to engagement rings:

How Much Should an Engagement Ring Cost?

Forget the old “two months’ salary” rule – that was a marketing invention, not financial advice. The real answer? Spend what makes sense for your budget.

A beautiful ring is available at almost every price point. What matters is choosing a stone and setting you love, understanding the 4Cs, and working with someone who’ll educate rather than pressure you.

How to Choose an Engagement Ring

First, ask the recipient for their preference! The start with shape – it’s the single biggest design decision. Then consider setting style, metal color, and carat weight.

If you’re unsure how to choose a diamond shape, seeing different cuts on your hand is the fastest way to know what feels right. Browse our engagement ring collection online, then schedule a private appointment to try on your favorites.

Do Guys Wear Engagement Rings?

Yes! And it’s becoming more common every year. Some couples choose matching bands, while others opt for complementary styles.

This is becoming more common as more people want to mark the engagement equally. If that resonates, explore our selection of wedding bands and engagement bands for options that work for every style.
