On Saturday, May 21st, many people will be gathering for one of three annual Triple Crown events: the Preakness. Debuting in 1870, it is one of Baltimore’s oldest traditions. The Pimlico Race Course was built in 1870 after Oden Bowie and his friends decided at a dinner to run a race in remembrance of the evening. Bowie wanted to build a race track in his home town of Baltimore if the race were to be run there, and so the Preakness was born.
After 146 years of horse races, the Preakness has still maintained its reputation for being a sophisticated event where people like to dress up. If you’re going, you probably have your outfit all figured out. The unique style of dress for this event is something you can’t miss. Big sun hats, sundresses, and bright colors are all staples of the classy Preakness style.
